The Best Places to Buy Cheap Furniture for a New Apartment

Buying furniture for a new apartment is never a fun experience. The cost can quickly add up, and before you know it, you’ve just spent $5,000 on a new living room set that your dog will most likely mark as his own within a week or two. Thankfully, there are several places where you can buy quality furniture at low, low prices while still maintaining a modicum of respect among those who judge you based solely on your taste in living room décor.

One of the best places to purchase used yet still decent-looking furniture is, of course, Craigslist. All of the furniture on Craigslist is either from the 70s (great if you’re going for a vintage look) or relatively new and being sold by those who are moving. By spending a little time searching (you’re bound to find way more options in major cities), you can easily find a nice couch or end table for a fraction of the price for which they might be sold in major stores. If the item in question is made of wood and has what is described as a “few nicks and scratches” on it, this serves as the perfect opportunity to get creative and paint it!

Of course, if you prefer a more on-the-level approach toward purchasing furniture, nothing beats Goodwill. While some Goodwills are not what any respectable human being would call an ideal place to buy nice furniture, some Goodwills and other thrift stores are of a higher caliber, featuring nicer items and a floor that doesn’t look like it was designed in the early seventies. The furniture offered is often of fairly exquisite quality, and with a little elbow grease can be cleaned up to the point where it looks as if it were bought straight from the manufacturer.

Much like the “free” section of Craigslist, websites such as Freecycle are a great place to go for free furniture. Freecycle is often used by college students, and while the prospect of getting a free couch from a college student is slightly disturbing (it might be free for a reason), every once in awhile you can find a nice couch or coffee table that was once owned by a responsible college student who simply needs to get rid of their stuff because they’re moving to New York to work on Wall Street in Mergers and Acquisitions.

With a little ingenuity and patience, finding cheap, or even free, furniture to furnish a new apartment that actually looks respectable should not be a difficult task. Just keep your head in the game and with time, your perseverance will pay off in the form of a swingin’ new pad.

Pre-Owned Hotel Furniture For Sale: Questions to Ask

If you are in the market for quality pre-owned hotel furniture for sale, but you need to ensure that you are truly getting quality merchandise at a great price, there are definitely questions you should ask. A few important things to consider include comfort, style, and price.

Ask the sales person about the actual quality of the furniture and whether he or she knows how old it is. Ask about and check for any scratches, dents, stains, tears in fabric, etc., and check to see that certain items are made out of real wood as it tends to hold up better over time. Since many pre-owned hotel furniture liquidators do not have a return policy, most merchandise is sold “as-is”, so ask as many questions as you can think of so that you are happy with your purchase in the end.

You can even ask your sales person which hotel the used furniture came from. You can then determine the overall quality in terms of the type of hotel. If the pieces came from a 5-star luxury hotel, then you know for sure that the furniture is high-end and that you are definitely getting a great deal that you will not find elsewhere.

When you visit a liquidator looking for used hotel furniture, take a look at some of the other items for sale. You would be surprised at the great deals you will find on things such as clocks, art work, coffee makers, mirrors, light fixtures, and more. When a hotel remodels their rooms, everything goes. And keep in mind that the pre-owned hotel furniture and other miscellaneous items will likely be in excellent condition as they were maintained and cleaned by hotel staff on a regular basis.

Remember, if you are looking for used hotel furniture because you like the quality, comfort, and style it affords, look to your local furniture liquidation company.

Junk Removal Company Versus Dumpster Rental

With the old year gone and a new president and year ahead of us, now is the time to organize your home and get rid of the junk cluttering your valuable space.  It’s very satisfying and rewarding to clear away the debris which may be lingering in your attic, yard, basement, garage, etc. There are several ways to go about removing your junk. 1) Rent a dumpster 2) Hire a local waste removal company to haul off your junk.

Renting a dumpster for a week usually cost about $250 – $400 for a 20 or 30 yard container. The dumpster company will drop off the huge container on your yard or driveway. This may seem great except you have an unsightly container for all to see for the week as well as take the chance of cracking and ruining your expensive concrete driveway.  Moreover, you have to provide your time and hard labor to carry and lug all your junk yourself to fill the dumpster. Also, you have to pay the full price for the size dumpster you purchase, regardless if you fill the dumpster entirely or not.

The better choice for junk removal and hauling is to hire an eco-friendly junk removal company to do all the work. They will provide you an over the phone estimate of your job prior to arriving. When they show up with their box truck, you simply show them the trash you want thrown away and their crew will load your rubbish in their truck and haul it away. Most junk removal companies charge by the volume and weight and the truck space it takes for your junk. A full 14 foot box truck can fit on average about a 2 car garage full of junk.

Another advantage of hiring a reputable waste removal company is that they recycle what they can, i.e., old furniture, appliances, scrap metals, construction debris, paper, plastics, etc. They also know which recycling centers accept items for recycling and which ones do not, i.e., paint tires, batteries, hazardous material, etc. Most junk companies will haul away most anything, however, because they are charged extra for some disposals, may charge slightly extra for disposal of hazard type materials.

The best part of hiring a junk removal company versus a dumpster rental is that you spend about the same yet your junk and clutter will be gone the same day-No dumpster sitting on your property for a week and moreover, all the heavy lifting and labor is done by the junk guys. Save your back, your driveway, and your money by hiring a local eco-friendly waste removal company to help you organize and remove the clutter from your home or business. You will be glad you did!
