July 25- Surfside passes smoking ban

Surfside Beach town council on Tuesday voted to ban smoking in public buildings and on beaches. It's the first Grand Strand municipality to make such a controversial move. The council voted 4-3 for the measure, which was introduced in April by councilwoman Judy Tuttle. Read more...

July 12- Mt. Pleasant passes smoke-free ordinance

Mt. Pleasant, SC- Town Council tonight passed a final reading of a smokefree indoor workplace and public place ordinance, joining nine other local communities in the state who have passed their own laws to protect workers from secondhand smoke in indoor areas.  The ordinance will become effective September 1, 2007, and covers all indoor workplaces and public places. July 9- Surfside Beach passes first reading of smoke-free ordinance

Surfside Beach, SC - Tonight, Surfside Beach Town Council approved a first reading of a smoke-free indoor workplace and public place ordinance by a vote of 5-2.  The measure will be finalized after an upcoming second reading of the ordinance. If passed, Surfside Beach will become the eleventh local municipality to enact a smoke-free ordinance in the state of South Carolina since May of 2006. Read more...


May 29- Second attempt to gut local smokefree laws fails
